Born in Bydgoszcz, Poland, Basia Galaj entered the world of music at a very young age, attending a kindergarten focused on the arts, which provided her with her first big performance as a soloist for the 650th anniversary of the Old Town Square in Bydgoszcz. Taking an interest in piano at the age of six, she began taking private lessons and continued her classical piano studies in Missio Musica after moving to Warsaw. Not long after this, she began studying voice under the instruction of professor Kartarzyna Winiarska and in 2010 won the Przebojowy Muzyk competition under the vocal category. Moving to the US in 2011, she attended Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, California, where she performed with the school choir as well as a Polish club outside of school. By her senior year of high school, she became dually enrolled as a student of the California Baptist University, performing with the University choir and continuing her piano and vocal studies.

As of 2014, she attends the University of North Texas, where she is pursuing a degree in Jazz Studies and studies with professors Jennifer Barnes and Rosana Eckert. At UNT she has had the opportunity to attend the workshops of numerous renowned artists such as members of the Hi-Lo’s, The Manhattan Transfer, Singers Unlimited, among many others, as well as the privilege to share the stage with artists such as ten-time Grammy Award winner Bobby McFerrin.

During summer 2015 she attended a jazz workshop in Poland, where she was selected to perform during the final concert and present her re-harmonizations of tunes.

As of September 2015, Basia is the children’s choir director at a Polish Church in Dallas.
